Loafers are a timeless silhouette: easy to slip on, effortlessly stylish, and perfect for smart casual or office wear. Traditionally, loafers have meant stiff soles, cramped toe boxes, and a lot of compromise on comfort. But in the barefoot shoe world, that’s changing fast.
If you’ve ever wondered whether there are barefoot loafers that look smart enough for work, or where you can buy them, this guide is for you. I’ve rounded up all the barefoot loafers currently available for women, with my own thoughts, product highlights, and ordering tips for the UK.

Feet Sutra Chandigarh Penny Loafer
Available in green or tan brown, this is Feet Sutra’s elegant take on a barefoot penny loafer.

Purchase from: Feet Sutra Direct with BAREFOOTBRIT discount code
Key Features
- Heritage Italian suede leather
- Wide anatomical toe box
- Zero-drop platform
- Thin, flexible 3 mm rubber sole
- Resoleable welting belt
- Leather interior lining
- Handcrafted construction

My Thoughts
These look every bit the classic penny loafer but with barefoot engineering hidden inside. The suede is premium and will mould to your foot over time. They feel very much like “quiet luxury” and would be ideal in smart office settings. I love that they are made with longevity in mind: you can resole them at any time (FeetSutra offer this as a service, too!). I got my pair from FeetSutra’s stand at Anya’s USA Barefoot Expo – and I wore them out to dinner that evening. I was so happy with the fit that I actually wore them all the way home the following day!

Sizing Advice
Feet Sutra uses US sizing, so double-check carefully if ordering from the UK. For reference, I wear the W-9 with 24cm x 10cm feet. They have options for men and women, with the men’s width being wider than the women’s.

Buying Advice
Feet Sutra ships from India and taxes are calculated at the checkout. Buyers are responsible for covering the taxes.
Feelgrounds Loafer
Vegan and versatile, Feelgrounds’ loafers are a go-to for those who want polish without leather.

Purchase from: FeelGrounds Direct with discount code BAREFOOTBRIT5
Available Colours: All black or brown
Material: Oleatex® vegan leather made from olive industry by-products

Key Features
- Zero-drop, flexible sole with classic look
- Wide toe box
- Easy slip-on with padded heel
- Removable insole to fine-tune fit
- Water-repellent and durable

My Thoughts
These are smart enough for most office environments but remain true barefoot shoes. The new outsole is sleeker, so they don’t scream “barefoot shoe” at first glance. A good sustainable option too. Unfortunately, and I have to be honest, I think Feelgrounds missed a trick with this design. I’ve told them directly: I can’t quite put my finger on exactly what is missing, but they’re just not feminine enough for me.

Sizing
I wear a 39 with 24 cm feet. Best for low-to-medium instep.
Ordering Advice
FeelGrounds offer DDP which means they cover all taxes. Shipping is always really quick from Germany.
OHNE Project LUMA
Designed in Barcelona, handmade in Spain, the LUMA loafer balances classic style with barefoot freedom.

Purchase from: Ohne Project direct
Colours: Black, grey, yellow
Features
- Wide toe box, zero drop, thin flexible sole
- Hand-stitched apron
- Optional removable tassels
- 100% vegan materials
- Runs half a size bigger than other OHNE models
My Thoughts
The tassels make them fun and versatile: you can dress them up or keep them simple. They’re light and flexible, and being vegan is a big plus for some.
Ordering Advice
Expect to pay 20% UK import VAT on orders over £135. Shoes are €134 + £17 shipping, so unfortunately you will get hit with taxes.
Shapen Sheen or Versa
Shapen brings more glamour to barefoot loafers with four standout designs: Patent Black, Leo (black with leopard print), Rebel (studs), and Blink (shimmering upper).
Buying options: Shapen Sheen or Shapen Versa direct with code BAREFOOTBRIT5 or check Happy Little Soles stock as they are already based in the UK

Key Features
- Premium leather uppers
- Lightweight (188g in size 38)
- 3.5 mm sole + 2 mm tread
- Wide, flexible barefoot fit
- Breathable microline lining and insole
My Thoughts
These loafers are show-stoppers. Perfect if you want something that feels a bit different but still office-appropriate. They’re definitely more fashion-forward than classic moccasins.
Ordering Advice
Direct orders ship from the EU. Shipping is around £36, and you’ll pay UK import taxes if the order is over £135. A safer option is to buy from Happy Little Soles (UK stockist) where you can use my code BAREFOOTBRIT to save.

Paidal Barefoot Sacchetto Loafer
Paidal have gone luxury with the world’s first barefoot shoe in sacchetto construction, a traditional Italian technique usually reserved for high-end designer shoes.
Buy from: Paidal Barefoot Direct

Key Features
- Goat nubuck leather upper, sheepskin lining
- Hand-stitched seamless sacchetto construction
- Wide, foot-shaped toe box
- Zero drop
- Thin, flexible sole
- Made to order (3–4 weeks)
- Limited to 50 pairs
My Thoughts
These are arguably the most premium barefoot loafers available. The construction means they’re soft and glove-like straight from the first wear. But they are narrower fitting, and currently only available in red, although they will be launching alternative colours soon.
Ordering Advice
Price is £179 including taxes and free global shipping. Orders are handcrafted, so expect to wait 3–4 weeks for delivery.
Final Thoughts
Yes, barefoot loafers exist and they’re no longer just a compromise shoe. From vegan options at Feelgrounds, to luxe suede at Feet Sutra, to glamorous styles at Shapen, and practical everyday moccasins at Be Lenka, there’s a growing choice for UK women who want barefoot freedom in the office.
When ordering from abroad, always check whether you’ll be charged UK import VAT (usually on orders over £135) and factor in shipping. Luckily, brands like Be Lenka now handle all taxes upfront, making them a safer bet.
Smart, stylish, and foot-friendly loafers are finally a reality. The only question is – which pair will you slip on first?
